Showa Kinen Park

Red poppy picking experience at Showa Kinen Park – Last day of Flower Festival

<This event has ended for 2019>
The Flower Festival at Showa Kinen Park is ending this weekend on May 26th Sunday. Since it will be the last day, they will let you bring back red poppy (also called Shirley poppy) flowers home on May 26th.

Entire Flower Hill is covered with bright red poppy flowers!

The event is called “poppy picking experience (シャーレ―ポピー摘み取り体験:しゃーれーぽぴーつみとりたいけん)”. As you can see in the picture above, there are plenty of poppy flowers so they are not limiting the number of people who can participate.

It would be sad to see poppy flowers all gone… 🙁 This is my first year seeing the flower festival at Showa Kinen Park and it’s definitely worth your trip to the park during the flower festival. Showa Kinen Park covers an area of 180 hectares. Therefore, as you can imagine, the scale of the amounts and the kinds of flowers you see is just spectacular.

I have also covered about the tulip garden of Showa Kinen Park. It was amazing to see rows and rows of all different kinds of tulips. Check it out here!

After seeing the tulip garden, I thought that was the best spot in the park. But I was wrong! The Flower Hill (Hanano-Oka) entirely covered with bright red poppy flowers took my breath away!

I was there on weekday so thankfully there weren’t many people at all. So I recommend you going to Showa Kinen Park during weekday if you ever get a chance to go there. Then you will be able to fully enjoy the flowers and not worry about other people being captured in your pictures.
