Due to the weather, Showa Kinen Park Fireworks (hanabi) has been postponed to the next day, July 28th Sunday.
Japanese summer is not complete without festivals and fireworks. It’s that time of the year again! If you are in Japan, you should definitely go to Japanese festivals and fireworks.

If you are going to any festival or fireworks, expect crowds. What fun is it without people?? 🙂
However, if you don’t like trying to secure good spots hours earlier and prefer to watch the fireworks in less crowded area (like me!), I recommend you get paid reserved seats called “special sponsors seats” which you can purchase through the festival’s official website. It costs you, but it’s an alternative option you can consider based on your preference.
***
There are 3 different types of reserved seats. For individual, it would be either “leisure sheet included ticket” or “chair ticket”. Considering “leisure sheet included ticket” is only for 2 people, it would be cheaper to get that instead of “chair ticket” if you are a party of two people.
<Seat Type> | <For> | <Price> | <#> | <Notes> |
Leisure Sheet Ticket | 2 | 6,000 yen | 1,600 | 0.9m×1.6m |
Chair Ticket | 1 | 4,000 yen | 2,160 | |
Group Sheet Ticket | 10 | 40,000 yen | 30 | 5m×5m |

Showa Kinen Park has all different kinds of flowers throughout the season. About 40,000 sunflowers bloom in Showa Kinen Park and the end of July till the beginning of August is the best season to go see sunflowers! Sunflowers will bloom at the same places where poppy flowers were – Hanano-oka. Seeing the entire hills full of poppy flowers was mind blowing. Therefore, I can’t wait till see the same hills filled with sunflowers!! :-O
Last year in 2018, the originally scheduled fireworks in July was canceled because of bad weather. But they managed to do special fireworks in November. It wasn’t bad to watch fireworks in cold weather.
Nevertheless, hopefully this year the weather will be great for the fireworks. Since I have less than 2 years old toddler, I will try to purchase “leisure sheet seat” this year. I can’t wait!!!
Enjoy fireworks!
