The more convenient transportation than trains from the airports to Tokyo – Airport Limousine Bus

Imagine you have one large heavy-duty luggage and one backpack to carry and going up and down the stairs of rail stations and subway in Tokyo. There is nothing more painful than that. Let me share you a more convenient and even cheaper transportation option you can take! I promise you will agree with me.

You actually would be surprised to find there isn’t always elevator at train station or subway station in Tokyo. Or it’s located at really inconvenience place, so you end up not finding one easily and just walk up and down the stairs.

Coming from the airport, you would be easily transferring 2 or 3 times before you arrive at your final destination, even transferring from JR (Japan Railway) – mostly running above the ground, to metro subway – mostly running underground.

I used to use trains to and from the airport and carrying heavy luggages and I remember I would get exhausted by the time I get to the airport or home. 🙁

Then I learnt about Airport Limousine Bus.

If you use the limousine bus, basically you never have to go underground. Bus stops are right outside of the airport terminal and it takes you directly to all the major places in Tokyo including major hotels, Tokyo Disney Resort Area, most of major train stations in Tokyo. More than 70 places in Tokyo! So you can easily find the one that’s near your final destination. Check out all the places limousine bus can take you here.

You can even book online here so you can plan ahead.

It’s the same experience when you are going to the airport. Bus drops you off right in front of airport terminal. It’s like having your friend drop you off at the airport! But you just have to pay for it. 😉

How much is train?

Train price first. Let’s say you are traveling from Narita Airport to Shinjuku Station. You can either take express train or regular train which takes longer but cheaper. (price information as of April 2019)

  1. Express train: Narita Airport -> Tokyo Station -> Shinjuku Station, 1hr 13min, 3,390yen
  2. Regular train: Narita Airport -> Higashi Nihon-bashi Station -> Bakuro Yokoyama Station -> Shinjuku Station, 1hr 19min, 1,369yen

Duration and price vary slightly depending on when you travel, but you can see that using express train is a lot more expensive than using regular train. But if it is your first time to Tokyo, I wouldn’t recommend regular train option because you can easily get lost.

How much is limousine bus?

One way ticket is about the same price as Narita Express one way ticket. But there is special discount visitor tickets for tourists for two ways from and to Narita Airport. That’s a lot cheaper than Narita Express train two ways. If you are coming and leaving from Narita Airport, two way tickets are definitely better deal. You can check out the latest price here.

They even have free-WiFi on the bus!

Please feel free to share your experience by leaving a comment below. Whether it was actually more convenient or not, I would love to hear about it! 🙂
